This patient has xanthelasma, a condition that may be related to an internal disorder of elevated cholesterol. In this case, the patient did not have high cholesterol, but the outward appearance was bothersome. A test site was initially performed, and what you see in the photo is the 2 week followup prior to definitive therapy.

This patient had a basal cell carcinoma of the nose that was diagnosed after this picture was taken by a skin biopsy. The area was subsequently treated with Imiquimod nightly as discussed in the journal article written by Dr. Greenberg in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology. The medical treatment provided to this patient cleared her tumor, alleviating the need for surgery.
